All Horns and Halos!

John Loshuertos JH&TSW’s songwriting prowess is in full gear on their latest album, All Horns & Halos. As the title might suggest, from the opening track, “Where I Am”, an 80’s-laden anthem, with it’s ode to sympathy and hope, you get the gumption that you’re about to partake in a 47 minute aural journey through a heaven and hell party. Some faves so far are Love’s On Trial, The Devil Beats His Wife, and Throwing Shadow, but really the whole album is growing on me more with each listen!

elliot r goettelman This album is so fucking good. I see amazing metaphors about my Sturgeon Bay all over the place. Can’t pick a favorite track, but I will always wonder what “the preacher man says that the Jesus gonna see you naked” means to James. Favorite track: Talk About The Good Things.

Where I Am 03:51
(James Hall, Tarl Knight) Where you are, I have been Where I am, you will one day be Of all the criminals who wait in cages Planning with precision perfect crimes You may become folk heroes for the ages You can rob the riches, but you’ll never steal back time Where you are, I have been Where I am, you will one day be Where you are, I have been Where I am, you will one day be With all the things that you can buy with money You can never touch the greatest wealth And while outside these walls it’s warm and sunny I’ll walk within the freedoms of my cell Where you are, I have been Where I am, you will one day be Where you are, I have been Where I am, you will one day be The people isolated in their suffering Trapped within the scripts of all their shame The cultures and the colors all look different Until they see our suff’ring as the same Where you are, I have been Where I am, you will one day be Where you are, I have been Where I am, you will one day be When you are, where I am Take my hand, we can all walk free Where you are, I have been Where I am, you will one day

Purrr... 03:05
(David Woods, James Hall, Wade Coisman) You are my true love You are my one and only You just a rude girl Feral and always horny Our tails, they form, a heart I saw those green eyes Out on that high fence Flash me that fine fur It gets so intense That it’s tearing, me, apart You are my main course You look a hot mess I like your pink tongue You make me scratch and hiss Wanna stay, in the street, ‘til dawn High in the green grass We have our sanctuary Thank you and god bless This is our territory And it ain’t, what I need, it’s what I want Did you forget the way we used to play? So late after sun down? We got nine lives to keep us safe From the dogs that run this town You are my sweet cream Just like from back home White rats and wet dreams Tin cans and fish bones Anything, that you want, I’m down You keep your coat clean You make my heart purr Just like that snow queen Whip smart in white fur You’re the pride, of this side, of town You’re the pride, of this side Whooh oooh
3.
(Adria Ramos, James Hall, Dan O Stoffels, Matt Spatol) Bomb the bridge, it looks like crap We should sell the steel for scrap, hey, hey, hey Hey, hey, hey Don’t give a sh-- what people say There’s a better bridge a block away, ay, ay, ay Ay, ay, ay Bomb the bridge, take it apart Send it to China to make shopping carts for Wal-Mart, Wal-Mart Well, it’s just one bomb And that bridge is gone There’ll be nothing more to argue about And it’s just one bomb And this whole deal’s done Now, it’s up to us to take it out Bomb the bridge, just let it go Future generations won’t even know, whoa oh oh Oh, oh, oh These bridge people, they got no clue Out with the old, in with the new, woo hoo hoo Ooh, ooh, ooh Well, it’s just one bomb And that bridge is gone There’ll be nothing more to argue about And it’s just one bomb And this whole deal’s done Now, it’s up to us to take it out Bomb the bridge, if you’re my friend We’ll make America great again Bomb the bridge, if you’re my friend We’ll make America great again Celebrate, it’s only steel and stone Celebrate, it’s only steel and stone Well, it’s just one bomb

(Andrea Wittgens, Eric McFadden, Genevieve Heyward, James Hall, Liam Hall, Vincent Gates) Gotta get across, now Carry that cross, now Gotta carry that cross to the other side Gotta keep dry, now Gotta keep dry, now Gotta keep dry, when the waters rise Move it on high now Move it on high now Move it on high, when the waters rise You gotta move it on high, when the waters rise The preacher man says that the Jesus gonna see you naked The preacher man says that the Jesus gonna see you naked You gotta keep faithful You gotta keep faithful You gotta have faith in a higher plan You gotta hear the music You gotta feel the music You gotta feel the muse, let it flow on through You gotta feel the muse, let it flow on through The preacher man says that the Jesus gonna see you naked The preacher man says that the Jesus gonna see you naked The preacher man says that the Jesus gonna see you naked The preacher man says that the Jesus gonna see you naked The preacher man says that the Jesus gonna see you naked The preacher man says that the Jesus gonna see you naked The preacher man says that the Jesus gonna see you naked The preacher man says that the Jesus gonna see you naked

(Claire Kelly, James Hall, Lantz Lazwell) At the end of the day You’re running on fumes And burning your bridges to keep warm. You’ve lost your way And all of your friends But never you mind The coming storm. We can talk about the good things For they always make you smile Through the heartache and pain The thunder and the rain We can talk about the good things. When it’s cold and it’s dark And the memories fade You’re aching for someone to shine a light. So you play your part Out on that stage Cause even when it’s wrong, It’s still all right. When we talk about the good things They always make you smile Through the heartache and pain The thunder and the rain We can talk about the good things We can talk about the good things Baby, hold on tight ‘Til the sun Starts to rise When you feel the light Then your heart can find A way to shine, A way to shine. When we talk about the good things They always make you smile Through the heartache and pain The thunder and the rain We can talk all about the good things. We can talk all about the good things. We can talk all about

(Greg Roteik, James Hall, Nick Hoover, Matt Spatol, Troy Therrien) Somebody told me, that justice was blind I turned around, and said, “Man, you must be outta your mind,” They got corruption, in this bitch, and these cops that are fake, Johns that acquitted and judges on the take, I got five girls workin’ in ten cars every night, They’ll be callin’ me for favors, when they money’s gettin’ tight, I’m trying to make it out this business Then the D.A. pulled my file Oooh, love’s on trial, Oooh, there ain’t no denial, Oooh, when love’s on trial, Betta get another daddy, They got me gone away for a while. Well, it’s Friday night, and they got me in the clink With so much noise, I can’t even hear myself think, It ain’t like I’m complaining, it ain’t like I’m in hell, But I’ll be calling my attorney, to come and get me outta jail, I got this domestic disturbance – it was a trumped up charge, I got all this litigation, while I’m tryin’ to live large, I gotta make it out the county, Before these people cramp my style. Oooh, love’s on trial, Oooh, there ain’t no denial, Oooh, when love’s on trial, Betta getcha another daddy, They got me gone away for a while. Oooh, love’s on trial, Oooh, there ain’t no denial, Oooh, when love’s on trial, Betta get another daddy, They got me gone away for a while. Betta get another daddy, They got me gone away for a while.

No Answer 03:59
(James Hall, Liam Hall, Kate Vargas) As a witness To both sides I been called in To testify Now my demon Walks a lonely mile And I’m dreamin’ I’m the one on trial Wave your flags and pray for peace Send your soldiers overseas Ask your questions to the breeze You’ll get No answer You’ll get No answer From me When you wake up She’ll be gone Cry your teardrops In the dawn Take her picture Off the wall ‘Cause she won’t be back No, she won’t be back, no Bow your head on bended knee Save your deepest sympathies Ask your questions to the breeze You’ll get No answer You’ll get No answer From me Bow your head on bended knee Save your deepest sympathies Ask your questions to the breeze You’ll get No answer You’ll get No answer You’ll get No answer From me

(Chris Bishop, James Hall, Liv Mueller, Lumberjack Cash) She dresses up in white and blue Captain’s wheel and anchors, too Haircut short like a pixie sprite… Drink like a sailor, every night She’s so nautical… erotikal Oh oh oh She’s so nautical… erotikal Oh oh oh She swab my deck with soap and mop And down below, she keep it cropped She like a serpent, inked in blue I wanna kiss that rose tattoo She’s so nautical… erotikal… Oh oh oh She’s so nautical… erotical Oh oh oh High-waist shorts, peroxide hair Halter top, and sailor’s flares Tied to the mast, she knows her knots, And when it’s warm, it’s sans culottes She’s… so… nautical… She’s… so… nautical… She’s… so… nautical… She’s… so… nautical… She’s so nautical.

THE DEVIL BEATS HIS WIFE Mark Dannells, James Hall Show me a god worth killing for And i'll bow down and kiss the floor If you let all the others find their way A love like mine deserves a sign A faith like mine is hard to find I can see the sunlight through the grey Oh the Devil beats his wife And Judas sets the price As the King deserts his crown And the cool, cool rain comes down. Tell me when it's killing time The moon is full, let's drink the wine Meet me in the morning with a smile You tell me to make sacrifice Stretch me out and draw your knife I cry out from the mountains 'cross the miles Oh the Devil beats his wife And Judas sets the price As the King deserts his crown And the news spreads over town And the cool, cool rain comes down. Better turn your face and hands As the fires sweep the land 'cross the rivers and the sands This is no time to make demands For your children and your friends Leaving ashes where they stand There are no bargains in the end Only anger in the wind

James Hall, John Hvezda, Morgan Rae, Wade Coisman Tell me that you want it I got it let me flaunt it I’m the queen bee in your bonnet When you got it don’t look haunted Throwin’ shadows I’m throwin’ shadows Well you know it ain’t romantic When you call me in a panic You get desperate you get frantic I be comin’ with your Zanax Throwin’ shadows I’m throwin’ shadows Throwin’ shadows, wherever I go Throwin’ shade, throwin’ shade Throwin’ shadows, wherever I go Throwin’ shade, throwin’ shade If you do it like I told you You could walk it like a soldier Then I wouldn’t have to scold you ‘Cause your mama’s back in Georgia Throwin’ shadows She throwin’ shadows See, I’m getting’ the impression That you want to put my dress on You can take it to confession But you know that my religion’s Throwin’ shadows It’s throwin’ shadows Throwin’ shadows, wherever I go Throwin’ shade, throwin’ shade Throwin’ shadows, wherever I go Throwin’ shade, throwin’ shade Throwin’ shadows, wherever I go Throwin’ shade, throwin’ shade Throwin’ shadows, wherever I go Throwin’ shade, throwin’ shade I’m throwin’ shade

Anna Jo, James Hall, Ruby James She seeks the purest truth Through the folly of youth Where no love can be found She lives for happiness Dresses up her best When nobody’s around In her home All her dreams are now her own The future’s yet unknown See her eyes, she don’t cry no more We are love, we are diamonds We are riches of the soul Calling out the corners Turning heart aches into gold We are dancing in the fires Chasing spirits in our dreams In a world of no solution Love reigns supreme Scars earned across the years On the back of tears This is not who you are Fate’s spinning out her thread Another dream in your head That you pulled from the stars And it’s true All the rest is up to you There’s a time when you must choose Dry your eyes, let the light shine through We are love, we are diamonds We are riches of the soul Calling out the corners Turning heart aches into gold We are dancing in the fires Chasing spirits in our dreams In a world of no solution Love, love reigns supreme

Adam Flaig, James Hall, Matt Spatol When I look at all the things I done, In the stark light of the sun And I think about the hurt I caused, And the friendships lost and won, I gaze into the mirror, And each memory gets clearer Every promise every threat I remember with regret, Wish I thought of that first. Wish I thought of that first Cos when the pain gets at its worst And I feel like I been cursed I wish I thought of that first. I walk alone with my choices known And the shadows that they cast. Tell myself I should turn around, But I can’t outrun my past. Never did what mama said Took my own road here, instead, Every good thing I just tossed, But it came at such a cost – Wish I thought of that first I wish I thought of that first, Every heartache set to verse Every missed take well rehearsed, Wish I thought of that first. With peace, at the end, There’s no way to pretend, That a lover, god or friend Could show me out.

James Hall, Victoria Vox Baby if I lost my way Tell me would you stay and understand Do you, do you feel me in your soul You’re the only one who knows me as I am And love will command All we got is each other All we got is each other In a world gone mad you do what you can To hang on on on on on Hold on, after all that we’ve been through We can always wake up to a brand new day I know, it seems easy to let go But you’ve got my hand to hold when skies are grey Come on, keep the faith All we got is each other All we got is each other In a world gone mad you do what you can To hang on on on on on In the gridlock of our minds Beyond the grey and blue The sun is shining through
